New Faucet

Tony and I bought a new kitchen faucet. It’s so nice, and allows so much more room to wash dishes! There isn’t a tool that would fit under the sink to unscrew part of the old sink, so Tony went downstairs and made his own! He is so resourceful and handy :)

More Projects

Tony has always been intrigued by an open space in the wall between our bathroom and closet. While I was away for the night on Saturday, he decided to put that space to use. He cut a door sized hole in our closet wall opening up a 2x3x7 foot space, wired the space for electric, added a small florescent light, and drywalled the area. He even made certain to carefully cover our clothes to protect them from all of the work he did :)
On Monday night he completed the first coat of taping and mudding. Once the mudding, sanding, and painting are complete, he will install three shelves so we can use the space as a linen closet. We will also be able to use it for extra storage.
Oh, and while he had the wall open he fixed the squeak in our bathtub!

We’re Homeowners!

We’re sorry it’s been so long! We’ve been wrapped up in all the excitement of finally being in our home!

Our closing went smoothly on the 15th, and we had nice weather to move. Our wonderful friends Pete, Phil, and Jen helped us move all of our things! It was a very exciting day :)

I didn’t realize that we would have so much to do once we moved it! Here’s a quick list of the things we (and by “we” I mostly mean Tony :)) have done since we have been in:

Installed all appliances in the kitchen
Picked up washer/dryer from Kalamazoo (Tony’s parents generously gave us their appliances from their old house)
Installed gas line from the basement to the dryer
Put together BBQ grill
Added dimmer switches to some light switches
Put together twin bed frame (my dad!)
Started digging/trenching for sprinkler system
Put in mailbox
Put in waterline to the refrigerator

I’m sure there are things I am missing, but that gives you an idea about all the projects Tony has found to do! We still have a long list, but Tony is enjoying all of it. My main job is remembering to water our new plant :) I am also enjoying doing laundry for the first time in a year now that we have our own washer and dryer.

Even though the building process is over, Tony and I plan to continue to keep you updated about our house and our lives in general through this website so stay tuned, and let us know if you have any new house tips!

Tomorrow is the Day!

Our walk through yesterday went well! The builder explained every light switch and electrical outlet as we walked through the house to make sure we were happy with everything. I took one last set of “before” pictures now that everything is finished :) Here are just a couple:

Tomorrow we are closing at 2pm, then packing up a truck with the help of some great friends, and moving into our first house!

Almost There!

We
are almost there! The inside of the house is finished, with the exception of some touch ups and a good cleaning. The outside is waiting for the shake, the shutters around the window directly above the front door, and paint on the pillar. I got a call from our Realtor today scheduling our closing for next Wednesday at 2pm! The builder called Tony today and scheduled our final walk through for Monday at 9am! We’ll receive the keys when we finish closing, and will move in that evening!

Carpet!

That’s right, folks, the carpet has been installed! Alison and I stopped by today and took measurements of the water flow and pressure for the sprinkler system design.
I’ll fax that in tomorrow for our free design from rainbird.com.

Moving Right Along

Things are moving right along! Our plumbing is almost finished. We have all of our sinks installed and one of our toilets. Our water heater is in as well as something that is necessary to install our outdoor sprinkling system. Our flooring is in in our bathrooms, kitchen, and foyer, and one of the bedrooms is padded and ready for carpeting. Our sidewalk is also in, and the bottom part of a column on our porch has been bricked.

Countertops & Carpet Tacks

The construction process continues to move along quickly, today the counter tops were in place in the kitchen and the bathrooms, the carpet tack strips were installed in the rooms that will get carpet. They also started to build the masonry post on the front porch!

The Upper Deck!

They finished our deck yesterday! It is very exciting to see, definitely one of the more exciting things to see this week :) It is very spacious… The final dimensions are 12′x15′!
I also measured that from the ground to the deck the posts are 9′ tall… That’s nice since it leaves the space under the deck feeling open too.
I can’t wait to buy a grill and start eating out there! The lighting in the entire house, the basement lights, the 1st floor bathroom lights, including a florescent light in the laundry closet are in too… They also replaced the black outside fixtures with nickel ones without us even saying anything… good CQ!
They also poured the sidewalk and front step that connects the driveway to the porch, and the sidewalk portion of the driveway, and the step inside the garage to the house.
They had the rest of the sidewalk form up too, but it wasn’t poured yet. Oh yeah, our doorbell was installed too! Very cool!

It’s Electric!

I stopped by the house today to find that all the electrical outlets and covers were installed! So were most of the light switches, network, and cable jacks! Did i mention smoke detectors and some of the light fixtures too! It also looks like they finished the painting. I can’t believe how much everything is shaping up!

I also spent a bit of time measuring the whole yard so i can work on my sprinkler system design. I found a great web site that is packed full of great info on every aspect of the systems… I’m gonna whip up a 3d model of my lot lot with google sketch up and see what i can come up with, and how it compares to the free design from rainbird.com.

It’s so exciting to see the work progressing all the time!
